WAONE

«Sapiens Dominabitur Astris» (The wise will rule the stars). I was honoured to work with the Main Directorate of Intelligence (Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence) to memorialise their activities in the Black Sea during the war. This has already become a tradition, this painting of murals to capture a moment in our history. The first one was in 2014, in India, about the revolution on Maidan; the next one was in Kyiv, about the beginning of war in Donbas. The third one was in 2022, in Poland, about the full scale russian invasion. The next one was also in 2022, in Kyiv, about liberation of Kherson and Kharkiv regions from russian occupiers and dedicated to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The fith one was in Paris, again about the war in Ukraine. The most recent one, the sixth, is about destroying the enemy fleet in the Black Sea.

After second mural, I really thought that it was the end of story, the end of that series of murals. But I painted again and again, believing that this one would be the end of the story, again and again... Now I believe that the recent one is really the last one in the series! I’m making a promise: If I paint another mural about Ukraine, it will be only about peace and prosperity!

About this mural «Sapiens Dominabitur Astris»: There is the hand of the wise in the sky who rules the stars. The stars are the constellation of Taurus, the astrological sign of Ukrainian ethnos (not the «present-day» state). The growing moon here is a metaphor for growing capabilities and the power of Ukrainian defenders. The symbol of Defence Intelligence, an Owl, is surfing the waves of the Black Sea, which is a metaphor for operating the Magura sea-drone. The scene in the background: Someone is operating a Magura in front of a «Sea-monster» (metaphor for R-360 Neptune anti-ship missile), destroying a russian warship.

This mural was produced in collaboration with Modern Ukraine Foundation. Thanx to everyone who joined to the process for donation, thanx to the whole team, that worked on this project, to the Defence Intelligence and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

«Victory».

My recent mural (painted in October 2022) in Kyiv is dedicated to the Ukrainian Heroes fighting the russian aggressor. This is the 3rd and final mural in the «Time for change» series. And it is the end of a story.

The story is about a russian bear who wanted to feast on Ukrainian honey, but unexpectedly met critical blow back. This is a metaphorical story about historical events taking place in Ukraine.

The first in the series was painted in India in January 2014 and depicted the Euromaidan in Kyiv. The second was painted in Kyiv in October 2014 and was about the beginning of Russian aggression in Donbas.

This mural is a symbol of Ukrainian courage and hope for ultimate victory.

The reality turns wrong, it turns to survival from genocide. The war stepped to our home. It came from somewhere we, Ukrainians, did not really expect - from our «brotherly» neighbour. The reality we lived was bright and built by truth. The russians have encroached on us many times with their imperial paw so we expected, but believed it will never happen again.

First russian aggression against Ukraine was in 16 century. It known as Muscovite-Ukrainian War (1658–1659).

And it started with violating the terms of the March Articles - the 1654 treaty (the agreement as a military-political union between of equals: Muscovia and Ukrainian Cossack state).

This somehow looks familiar, right? The bear thinks that the paw will be intact.

But not this time! Whole world in danger now, and the aggressor is unlucky to resist.

Its time to unite and stop the savage russian beast. We, like this swarm of bees, call everyone to unite in painstaking work, to fight back, forever.

«Curious Botanist».

The mural i did in the heart of the neighborhood called “Bernard de Jussieu” in Versailles is a tribute to the famous french botanist Bernard de Jussieu.

The figure of botanist, investigating the unknown plant represents famous french naturalist Bernard de Jussie (1699-1777). Who founded a method of plant classification based on the anatomical characters of the plant embryo. He was also a sub-demonstrator of plants in the Jardin du Roi in Paris, later he developed a botanical garden at the Petit Trianon at Versailles.

“Eternal struggle”

This is a story, based on the myth about dragonslayer and monstrous serpentine creature. Classical myth, that have survived for thousands in years in mythology and folklore in almost all cultures of the world. 
The fight of mythological hero vs
serpent represents human’s eternal struggle with it’s own weaknesses. Transcending its own limits, on the path to the perfection, step by step he is getting closer to the stars.

Once i`ve been offered to paint on the school somewhere in Romania, this took me back to my school time.

I remember the time when i saw the first mural in my life. It was in the end of 80`s, i was 7 y.o. pupil of primary school. That was a series of paintings on the walls of my school, depicting scenes from well known folk tales.

The mural that i painted on the wall of Școala Gimnasia Octavian Goga, i called “Transcendental Moment“. This is sort of indefinable creative force based on knowledge, transformed into visual delight.

Reading the real book in the age of technology and internet may look rare and a kind of old fashioned, but not for me.

The story of my passion about books started many years ago. My father had a big collection of books: fiction, illustrated encyclopedias, art books. I`d lose myself for days in our library when i was a child. Now after many years i collect books as well. I collect rare antique art books from all over the world.

This mural “Spirit of antique book“ i dedicated to all book lovers. It represents the wonderful way to escape from ordinary life to extraordinary worlds, and depicts that magic moment when you read the book, and lose yourself between the pages.

I had a great experience visiting Canada for the first time, and painting in the capital of beautiful British Columbia - city of Victoria. These were the crazy 11 days of work, i have been dealing with the wall in the middle of the industrial area, noisy, dusty, dirty and smelly. Earplugs and noise cancelling headphones were my best friends. 

The mural named «Transformation» i did for Concrete Canvas, which was the first mural project in Victoria and aimed to start transformations on the Rock Bay area. 

Watching the recycling center daily work got me thinking about quantity of rubbish made by one customer, and how that quantity transforms into endless ocean of rubbish, when you see it collected in one place. 

The small colored human figures, representing the variety of peoples and nations on Earth, they are falling into some kind of molten mass, which transforming into big multi-colored human figure, which represents humanity as a whole. The multi-colored figure pushing the planet somewhere. Where? Its up to you, every day you make а decision where our planet will go.

My part (from the right). Irretrievable time, surrounded by the ring of Saturn is running out from the representation of Saturn/Chronos, the God of time and karma - the "Star Cube of Sapientiae". Implores us to look at the clock, and is also in control of cultural achievements, affects the development of science and technology.

 "Star Cube of Sapientiae(wisdom, knowledge, lat.)" with the monkey getting smart above, i have dedicated to the University of Florida located in Gainessville, a small town lost in endless beautiful and dangerous swamps. It is the biggest university on South East of US.

"Известно, что наступил новый цикл, новая эпоха, ночь Сварога или галактическая ночь закончилась. Учёные всего мира подтвердили, что Солнечная система вошла в водородное облако, а согласно Ведам, мы вышли из тёмного "рукава" галактики и вошли в светлый сектор Млечного пути, что одно и то же. Это характеризуется повышением энергетического излучения центрального Солнца галактики, это приведёт к ускорению нашей эволюции, простыми словами, люди начнут просыпаться, а кто-то - быстрее деградировать.

В данной работе объект "Песочные часы в руке" является основным. Рука в вышиванке воплотила в себе не только украинский народ, но и всех наших предков, уходящих в глубину тысячелетий, - духовную сущность нашего народа, национальный эгрегор. Песочные часы - это параллель с государственным флагом Украины, цветовые сочетания которого определяют программу развития или в нашем случае - программу нашего уничтожения. Напомню, что работа сделана в Индии, где жёлто-синий (а не сине-жёлтый) стяг является символом господа Рамы, духовного лидера великих арийцев, который по данным Вед жил 1,2 млн лет назад. Позднее этот стяг развевался над колесницей Арджуны и его возничего Кришны во время битвы на Курукшетре. Возвращаясь к образу песочных часов, где неизбежное наступление нового временного цикла, непременно восстановит божественный порядок в наших краях, указывает также на то, что не стоит забывать, что всё это в наших руках.

Журавль, как символ огня и солнечного света, как символ любви к отцу-матери, к родной земле, святой обязанностью которого является уничтожение змей, жаб и прочих вредителей, сражается со змеем. Эта сцена отсылает нас к последним событиям на Майдане."

"The Big Bang"

"WAONE’s recent work completed in Lublin, Poland, a mural produced for the Europejska Fundacja Kultury Miejskiej Festival, can be seen as a perfect example of Interesni Kazki’s fine blend of religious, folk, and popular art, as well as their deeply allegorical, spiritual, symbolic way of working. A painting which is about the “origin of life”, as WAONE has revealed (after much coercion), the piece was an attempt, as he has said, to “illustrate the moment of creation from the Ancient Aryan legend of the birth of the Universe”: Whilst the golden box thus represent “the whole universe before the big bang”, the main character in the image “Brahma (the first person which born by primordial Light, outside of time and space) has opened the box and our reality appeared.  He put the reality into linear time, and Shakti (the energy, motherly aspect of God) was then born into our material world”. Not only showing the depth of meaning which is imbued into each image the Interesni Kaki produce, WAONE’s elucidation also reveals the way the duo attempt to positively affect their viewers through presenting “this world with something from above”. Yet at the same time, the pair argue that many of their images are beyond their own control, beyond their own understanding even. Producing many of their works through intuition then, a “mystical tool” through which they world is perceived beyond the “mind and body with its physical senses”, they feel that many of their contain a form of knowledge outside of purely verbal communication. Whilst their works contains multiple significations then, meanings whose original intentions may often seem occluded, what Interesni Kakzi always preserve is the status of their murals as windows onto different, perhaps more sacred worlds however: Seeing their production as a form of meditation or dream, a ritual in which their work emerges from the subconscious, they use their visual production to reveal a frequency which normally stands beyond the human mind, a “transference of consciousness” in which the image emerges from the actions of a stable body, yet returns to affect this same body in mysteriously prescient ways."
